If you are a business owner or staff member in the Manchester area then our 'Internet Access' training course's three levels could well be for you. Assuming that you know almost nothing about the internet and world wide web at the outset, the course covers the basic fundamentals of the technologies, connecting, securing, updating, scanning, surfing, searching, emailing, avoiding scams and spam plus managing, exporting and backing up your important data. We currently only offer this service to business owners and staff from the Greater Manchester area and sessions are led by our consultant and director, Mike. Access' Training for Microsoft Windows users Required skills Ability to turn a PC on, use the Operating System and at least one program with a basic level of competence. Access to an internet connected PC between sessions. Level 1 : Hours 1-4 (4 hour session) The Abstracts. How a computer is connected. ISPs, Modems, routers and wireless access. Connecting to the internet. Using a firewall to protect your connection. Downloading and installing software including Firefox, Thunderbird and more. Scheduling and running OS updates, anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Level 2 : Hours 5-8 (4 hour session) Setting your homepage, using a browser to view and bookmark sites. Tour of popular websites. Using a search engine to find information. Viewing PDF documents and Flash pages. Setting up and using a mail client to send and receive emails with a signature, hyperlinks and attachments. Level 3 : Hours 9-12 (4 hour session) Secure passwords, staying safe and up to date, common scams and pitfalls to avoid. The Firefox browser - Multiple windows and tabs, finding text in a page, cookie management, privacy options, clearing passwords and history etc. Backing up to an external drive, exporting your bookmarks and copying Thunderbird mail data.
