Manchester Training and Tuition - 'Business Website 101' : Intensive 30 hour course

stijlnet.com offers help and tuition with domain names, websites and hosting, SEO, PPC and other internet marketing topics to small groups in informal meetings as an affordable alternative to you retaining a dedicated website admin or marketing consultant. Our 'Business Website 101' crash course cover the bare essentials that you will need to know to register a domain name, set up a basic website and hosting, start up marketing camapigns at two major sites and to maximise your chances of a decent return on investment from your online advertising budget. We currently only offer this service to business owners and staff from the Greater Manchester area and all sessions are led by our consultant and director, Mike. Informal groups of three or less may be accommodated at our private office and larger groups from within the same organisation can be assisted through our onsite help sessions.

'Business Website 101'
Intensive 30 hour course in website publishing and marketing

Required skills / previous sessions

Knowledge of the 'Internet Access' Level 3 course content. Abilities to connect to the internet behind a firewalled connection, download and install software, schedule and run anti-virus and anti-spyware software, use a browser to view and bookmark sites, use a search engine to find information, use a mail client to send and receive emails with attachments, export and back up important files plus an awareness of common errors, scams and other pitfalls awaiting the new user.

Session 1 : Hours 1-3 (3 hour session)

The Abstracts. A potted history of the internet and worldwide web plus an overview of HTTP, HTML, IP & TCP, FTP, POP & SMTP, DNS, Browsers, Mail and FTP Clients, LAMP, CMS, Databases and more.

Session 2 : Hours 4-7 (4 hour session)

Making a page from a code template. Setting up a simple business contact webpage with appropriate HTML declaration, title, description, keywords, image tags and containing your company information, a link and a few pictures.

Session 3 : Hours 8-9 (2 hour session)

Choosing and registering a domain name, choosing and registering a hosting account. Setting your nameservers.

Session 4 : Hours 10-11 (2 hour session)

Installing Filezilla FTP client and inputting your details. Uploading your first webpage and testing it in a live environment. File Permissions, CGI, Cache issues and other basics.

Session 5 : Hours 12-15 (4 hour session)

Valid code, accessibility, legal obligations and issues including privacy and trading statements. Building additional pages, internal linking and SEO basics for onsite content.

Session 6 : Hours 16-17 (2 hour session)

Analysing and interpreting website and search statistics. How to make the most of external tools, your server logs and other data.

Session 7 : Hours 18-19 (2 hour session)

Introduction to the fundamentals of PPM, PPC and CPA advertising and the various cost implications and benefits. Branding, traffic or conversions? Overview of two popular platforms - Google Adwords and Facebook. Effective use of your budget and methods to measure ROI.

Session 8 : Hours 20-21 (2 hour session)

Setting up PPM & PPC campaigns at Google

Session 9 : Hours 22-23 (2 hour session)

Setting up PPM & PPC campaigns at Facebook

Session 10 : Hours 24-25 (2 hour session)

CPA and Affiliate Marketing. Technical requirements, budgetary and other considerations.

Session 11 : Hours 26-28 (3 hour session)

Intermediate SEO. Acquiring quality backlinks, using 'white hat' techniques and organically growing an authority or dominant site for a niche topic or product.

Session 12 : Hours 29-30 (2 hour session)

Roundup. Applying knowledge, rinsing and repeating. Emerging technologies and new channels. Where to go next.
